At some point, windows which have been in use for a long period of time will start to show signs of wear and tear. Window mechanisms can fail for a wide variety of reasons. Age can wear down the mechanism or in some cases an attempted break-in can lead to damage requiring complete replacement, or simply the mechanism has never been lubricated.
A upvc window mechanism is the gearing part inside a window frame that’s driven by a handle and secures the window shut. Commonly called upvc mechanisms but also known as espagnolette (espag) window locks, these mechanisms are one of the most common parts to break in a uPVC window. A common indicator that the window mechanism needs replacing is that it will start to become more difficult to open and close before it breaks.
When a window mechanism is broken it will leave you with two situations:
-
The window is closed and you’re unable to open it, or
-
The window is left open and you’re unable to lock it.
In either situation we are on hand to help. We carry a wide range of window mechanisms and can supply and fit them in most cases the same day.
